MISSION STATEMENT
“Our mission is to be a central force in the Jewish Community, responsive to the needs of its individuals and families, by providing, in a Jewish ambience, quality services that promote the social, cultural, recreational, physical and intellectual needs of our members and users.”
HISTORY
The Montreal Jewish Community Centre, an institution most commonly referred to as the “Y”, has been home to members for 100 years. On March 10, 1910, the 13 founding members petitioned the city of Montreal requesting that they be “constituted a civil corporation to be known as the Young Men’s Hebrew Association.” Today, the original club, formed for the “purpose of developing young men physically, mentally, and morally” has evolved into a state-of-the-art fitness, community and cultural centre. Proud of its Jewish identity, the Y reaches out to all people, regardless of race, religion, age and economic class. The YM-YWHA / Montreal Jewish Community Centres still honours its original commitment. Within these walls you can exercise your body, exercise your mind and exercise your values and culture. Join us and exercise your choice.
