Where Children Learn to Grieve and Heal
CAMP ERIN® Montreal
Camp Erin® is the largest network of free bereavement camps in North America designed for children and teens ages 6-17 who have experienced the death of someone close to them.
Camp Erin® Montreal brings hope into the lives of bereaved children and teens by providing a safe environment to share their story, process their grief in healthy ways, and honour the memory of the person who died. Led by grief professionals and trained volunteers, Camp Erin® Montreal provides a unique opportunity for peer bonding for children and teens facing similar life circumstances. This weekend-long overnight experience is filled with traditional, fun camp activities combined with grief education and emotional support.
The Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA and the Harry Bronfman Y Country Camp (YCC) are partnering to make Camp Erin® Montreal an outstanding camp experience. Nestled in the rolling countryside of the Laurentian Mountains, YCC is a calm, nurturing environment ideal for children to grieve with others who have similar emotional needs.
Because children grieve in many ways, Camp Erin® Montreal has a staff/camper ratio of 2:1 to ensure that each child will receive a high level of attention and support.

“It helped me meet new friends like me. It helped me calm down. Everybody knows what I’ve been through. Camp Erin helped me remember my special people. Camp helped me feel not so different. It helped me feel less angry.” – Girl, 9
“Camp Erin helped me to talk more about my loss and to not think that I’m not normal because of my loss. I feel that because of Camp Erin I am able to cope with my grief in many new ways and to open up to other people about my loss.” – Boy, 12
“Camp Erin helped me by grieving. It helped me look through different angles, like I’m not alone. At first I thought nobody understood me and now I see that I’m not alone and that there are different ways of grieving like some people cry or some people think or laugh or smile like there’s no right or wrong way of grieving!” ‐ Girl, 15

Since Camp Erin® is only one part of a child’s grief journey, continued camper care is an essential part of our program. Camp Erin® Montreal and the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA are committed to creating ongoing programs and offering resources for campers and their families that extend throughout the year.
Camp Erin® depends on compassionate and dedicated volunteers who assume various roles such as cabin buddies, grief education facilitators, photographer, nurse and other support positions.
