Our goal is to collaborate with families to ensure that Y City Day Camp is the best option for their children. We have always made spots available for children with special needs, and this year will be no different! We have a plan in place to accept children of all abilities at our camp this year. Please keep in mind that available spots are subject to government guidelines regarding COVID-19 and registration numbers.
Shadows and Counselors for Children with Special Needs
A shadow will be provided for your child based on their needs and abilities. The ratios will be 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 depending on the camper’s ability. This may change week to week as it is also dependent on weekly registration. If possible and based on that week’s registration and the child’s ability, campers may be placed in a neurotypical group with an accompanying shadow.
One of the chief goals of our camp has always been to foster the inclusion and integration of our special needs participants by providing them with opportunities to participate in activities with our neurotypical groups. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this may not be possible as often or in the same way as previous years. Campers’ safety is our first priority at all times.
Registration, Payment and Subsidy
Registration is a two-part process. Firstly, you must fill out the Google Form, found on the main page. You will then be directed to a separate platform for payment. Only once you have submitted payment will your spot at camp be reserved for you. Subsidy pricing is available to those who apply and qualify. An email request for this subsidy must be sent to email@example.com after completion of the registration forms.
The Y Cancellation Policy. Why is it different for children with special needs?
Because we guarantee shadows for the children who need them, we require more time to plan for staff changes. This means that we need at least 14 days notice prior to the start of the week. Campers may be able to switch into different weeks but this is subject to registration numbers and cannot be guaranteed.
